How to Download Facebook Videos in HD (Private & Public)
Facebook doesn't give you a real download button. The "Save video" option in the app only bookmarks the post — it doesn't save the actual file. If the original poster deletes it, your "saved" video disappears too.
To get an actual video file on your device, you need a web downloader that extracts the video from the Facebook post. Here's how.
How to Download Facebook Videos
Step 1: Copy the Facebook Video Link
On the Facebook app (iPhone or Android):
- Find the post with the video
- Tap the three dots (···) in the top right of the post
- Tap Copy Link
On facebook.com (desktop):
- Click the video to open it
- Copy the URL from the address bar
Facebook links look like: https://www.facebook.com/username/videos/1234567890 or https://fb.watch/abc123
Step 2: Paste Into DownloadBot
- Open downloadbot.org
- Paste the Facebook video link
- Tap Download
Step 3: Choose HD or SD Quality
Facebook videos are typically available in two qualities:
- HD (720p or 1080p) — Full quality as uploaded
- SD (360p) — Smaller file, faster download
- Audio only (MP3) — Extract the audio track
Always choose HD if file size isn't a concern — Facebook already compresses videos during upload, so the HD version is the best you'll get.
Downloading Videos from Facebook Reels
Facebook Reels work the same way. Copy the Reel's link using the share button, paste it into DownloadBot, and download. Reels are typically short (under 90 seconds) so downloads are fast.
Can You Download Private Facebook Videos?
This depends on what "private" means:
- Friends-only posts — If you can see the video when logged in, you can copy the link and try it. Some friends-only videos have publicly accessible video URLs even though the post is restricted. DownloadBot will attempt the download and tell you if it can't access the file.
- Private groups — Videos in closed/private groups may or may not be accessible. Try pasting the link — if DownloadBot can reach the video file, it will work.
- Messenger videos — Videos sent via Messenger are not accessible through public URLs and cannot be downloaded with web tools.
Downloading Facebook Videos on iPhone
- In Safari, after the download completes, tap the Downloads icon
- Tap the file → Share → Save Video
- The video appears in your Camera Roll
Downloading Facebook Videos on Android
The video saves directly to your Downloads folder. Open your Gallery or Files app to find and play it.
Want Just a Clip?
DownloadBot's built-in clip tool works on Facebook videos too. Set start and end timestamps to download only the section you need — useful for saving a specific moment from a long Facebook Live or event video without downloading the entire thing.
Facebook Live Videos
Facebook Live replays can be downloaded once the stream has ended and the replay is available. Copy the post link and paste it into DownloadBot. Note that long Live videos (1+ hours) may take longer to process.
DownloadBot downloads from Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, Twitter/X, Vimeo, Twitch and 500+ more. One tool, every platform.
